3AW continues to set the daily agenda in Melbourne, with the station once again confirmed as the city’s undisputed No. 1 in Breakfast, Mornings, Evenings and AFL.

The latest GfK Radio 360 Survey 4 results, released today, cement 3AW’s position as Melbourne’s premier destination for live, local and compelling talk radio. The station has posted a strong overall audience share of 11.9 and a commanding commercial streaming share of 28.9%.

Each week, a massive 694,000 Melburnians tune into 3AW, drawn to its agenda-setting mix of breaking news, sharp opinion and lively conversation that keeps the city informed and entertained.

3AW’s dominance is driven by its powerhouse lineup, securing the No. 1 position across key dayparts. 

In the key Breakfast battleground, Ross and Russ remain in a league of their own. They posted a huge share of 17.2, leaving their closest rival 6.7 share points behind. The show connects with a loyal weekly audience of 444,000 and is an absolute powerhouse in the digital space, capturing a 41.2% share of commercial streaming.

The winning momentum continues into Mornings, with Tom Elliott cementing his No. 1 position in the timeslot. He achieved an impressive share of 13.9, with his agenda-setting program connecting with 434,000 listeners every week. This leadership extends to the digital space, where he commands a powerful 36.6% of commercial streaming.

In the Afternoons slot, Tony Moclair posted a share of 7.6. His unique blend of engaging discussion and high listener interaction continues to resonate strongly with audiences across Melbourne.

In the highly competitive Drive timeslot, Jacqui Felgate achieved a strong result, posting a share of 8.6 (up 0.4 on Survey 3). The program is a daily destination for more than a quarter of a million Melburnians as they end their workday.

3AW’s winning form continues in Evenings, with Denis Walter once again proving he owns the timeslot. He achieved an incredible share of 18.7, making his show the undisputed choice for Melbourne nights.

On weekends, Melbourne continues to start its day with Darren James, whose show has again secured its position as the No. 1 choice for weekend breakfast listening.

3AW Football dominated the weekend, finishing as the No. 1 broadcast on Thursday and Friday nights while also winning the overall football ratings across Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday – a great team effort.

Ben Fordham Live remains undefeated in 2025 as Sydney’s No.1 Breakfast program, leading both radio and live audio streaming with a 14.7 share and remarkable 48.5 commercial streaming share. 

Overall, 2GB is the city’s No.1 talk station, delivering a 11.6 share, with Mornings, Afternoons, Drive and Evenings all taking out the No.1 talk position.

Footy fans are also flocking to 2GB ahead of finals series for the best NRL commentary and analysis from The Continuous Call Team, which is the outright No.1 in football coverage across Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Further highlights from GfK Survey 4 include:

•  John Stanley is No.1 in Nights with 24.2 (up 2.0) – his best result of the year. 
• Phil O’Neil is No.1 in Overnights with 13.8.
• The Garden Clinic with Graham Ross is No.1 on Saturday and Sunday with 16.1.
• Healthy Living with Dr Ross Walker is No.1 on Sunday nights with 13.3 (up 1.7)

Mushroom Case Daily was the third most listened to podcast in June with 670,000 listeners, according to the June Triton Australian Podcast Ranker released today.

ABC Head of Audio on Demand Jessica Radburn said: “It demonstrates again that when there are high public interest stories, Australian audiences turn to the ABC to understand them.

“Sensing the strong audience interest, months before the trial started the team developed a clear strategy for how the show could produce daily episodes during the court proceedings.

“It was important to cover this story in a way that balanced the undeniable public interest with respect to the tragic human impacts at the centre of the trial.”

The ABC had four out of the top 10 podcasts in the June Triton Australian Podcast Ranker with ABC News Top Stories taking No 1 spot, up two places from the May list. Mushroom Case Daily was No 3 with an additional 46,000 listeners from last month, ABC News Daily No 6 and Conversations No 9. 

The ABC had 3.1 million listeners across its podcast slate in June and had 44 titles in the expanded top 300 podcast ranker.

Mushroom Case Daily follows the case of Erin Patterson, who this month was found guilty of three counts of murder and one of attempted murder for deliberately poisoning her lunch guests’ food with death cap mushrooms. 

Throughout the trial court reporter Kristian Silva, producer Stephen Stockwell and journalist Rachael Brown kept audiences up to date with highlights from court, breaking down the legal process along the way.

“The biggest surprise for the team was how engaged the audience was in learning more about the minutiae of daily court processes and jury logistics, as well as following Stocky, Kristian and Rachael’s daily lives as they were reporting on the case,” Radburn said.

“We’ve had more than 8000 emails to the Mushroom Case Daily inbox from engaged audience members in Australia and around the world, which the team incorporated into the show to ensure the audience’s questions were responded to daily.

“There’s still more to come for the program, with the team continuing to dissect the verdict and respond to audience questions. They will also cover the sentencing.”

Since it began producing daily episodes, Mushroom Case Daily has become the ABC’s most successful podcast in a decade. It is the No 1 podcast on Apple Australia’s podcast chart, No 2 on Spotify’s Trending chart and has broken into the Spotify Top 20 –a first for an ABC podcast. 

Mushroom Case Daily has also been featured on The Washington Post, The Project and Mamamia. Audiences can enjoy every episode of Mushroom Case Daily for free and ad free on ABC listen.

52% of people report listening to or watching podcasts each month; Audio industry unifies around a single source of truth for podcasting

Podcasting has reached a significant step-change. New research reveals 52% of Australians are now reporting they are listening to or watching one or more podcasts every month. The sustained and consistent growth in podcasting has been exceptional with reported listening more than doubling in the past five years from 25% of Australians back in 2020.[i]  

This milestone demonstrates that the medium has crossed from emerging to essential, firmly embedding itself in audience routines and reflects an evolving industry defined by unified measurement, consistent data standards, and unprecedented collaboration across publishers of all sizes.

Our Demos+ data reveals that True Crime delivers active buyers, not browsers. Among True Crime monthly podcast listeners surveyed, 83% serve as primary grocery shoppers and 90% purchased groceries in the past week. The True Crime genre, with 19.2% reach of monthly podcast listeners and a premium female 25-54 skew (44.9% vs 31.3% average), True Crime delivers engaged consumers making active purchase decisions. These listeners represent quality buyers reaching for their wallets weekly.[ii]

The Organisation

The Ethnic Community Broadcasting Association of Victoria (ECBAV), operates 3ZZZ which has grown to be the largest ethnic community radio station in Australia, giving voice to ethnic communities broadcasting in their own languages. The Station Manager provides leadership and direction for the staff and ensures the efficient and smooth running of the station. • Michael Graham will also join in mid-August as Brisbane Sales Director. Moving from his commercial leadership role at Car Expert, Michael previously held senior leadership positions at SCA, ARN, and Nova in the Brisbane market, positioning him to significantly enhance Nine Audio’s local team.
• Noel Quick, currently a Group Business Director at Nine Perth, assumed the role of Sales Director for Nine Audio on July 1. A long-standing senior leader in the Perth market, Noel brings extensive experience from his time leading SCA in the region. He will continue his GBD responsibilities across the broader Nine group until September 30, when he transitions to full-time as Sales Director Nine Audio.
• Jonathon Mandel has been appointed National Head of Digital Sales, joining from independent digital agency Bolster, where he served as Head of Media. Prior to Bolster, Mandel was Head of Digital Product and Operations for LiSTNR. He will be instrumental in driving revenue outcomes for Nine Audio’s digital audio product from September 29.
• Rick Lenarcic, currently National Head of Direct Sales, will transition into the role of Head of Sales Operations. Over the past six months, Rick successfully refreshed the national direct sales approach and in his new capacity, he will oversee the Traffic, Commerce, Research, Engineering/Technology, and Syndication teams across the Radio business. Rick brings over 30 years of media experience, including roles as COO of Grant Broadcasters/ARN Regional and Head of Regional Media SCA.
• Chris Gregson will lead the Powered Audio team, integrating with the existing creative assets of the Nine Radio business to form a formidable creative services group for the market.
