The Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) is seeking its next President, a voluntary national leadership role that plays a critical part in shaping the future of Australia’s largest independent media sector.
Following the outstanding leadership of Ian Hamm, who will step down in mid-2025, this role presents an exciting opportunity to guide the strategic direction of community broadcasting, advocate for the sector, and foster relationships with government, media, and industry stakeholders.
About the Role
As President of the CBF, you will:
- Lead a dedicated Board, providing strategic governance and oversight
- Represent the sector nationally, engaging with key stakeholders across government, industry, and philanthropy
- Champion community broadcasting, supporting over 450 community media organisations across Australia
- Contribute to a thriving and resilient sector, which connects more than 5 million listeners weekly
The role requires a highly experienced Board Director or Chair, with strong negotiation and communication skills and a passion for media, arts, and community broadcasting. A background in the public sector, media, arts, or philanthropy will be highly regarded.
This voluntary position requires an estimated time commitment of up to one day per week, with the opportunity to serve for up to three 3-year terms.
Why Apply?
Community broadcasting plays a vital role in giving a voice to diverse communities, including First Nations, ethnic, LGBTIQ+, print-disabled Australians, and many others. Through its grants program, the CBF distributes over $20 million annually, helping community broadcasters inform, connect, and entertain audiences nationwide.
This is a high-profile leadership opportunity to make a tangible impact on the future of independent media in Australia.
If you have the experience, leadership skills, and passion to champion community broadcasting, we encourage you to apply.
