Today’s release of the GfK Radio 360 Survey 4 results reveals that 3AW boasts a leading audience share of 13.7 and commercial streaming share of 26.5%.

Each week, the station’s captivating mix of live and locally-focused talk radio reaches a cumulative audience of 725,000 Melburnians.

Ross and Russ continue to dominate Melbourne’s Breakfast radio airwaves, securing a remarkable 19.6 share – 8.8 points ahead of their nearest rival. Additionally, the dynamic duo captured a commanding 35.8% of the commercial streaming audience.

In his fourth survey in the Mornings slot, Tom Elliott dominated as Melbourne’s No. 1 with a winning 15.7 share. Elliott also posted a winning commercial streaming share of 33.6%.

Tony Moclair is the No.1 Afternoon talk program with a share of 10.5 – more than double his nearest talk competitor.

Jacqui Felgate is Melbourne’s No. 1 Drive talk program with an 8.4 share – up 0.1 on Survey 3 and her second successive survey share growth.

Denis Walter remains the leading Evening program in Melbourne, boasting a 21.3 share – 9.5 points ahead of his nearest competitor.

Steve Mills and Karl Langdon jumped to a share of 12.1 in Breakfast (up 0.8) stamping its position in that time slot as Perth’s No.1 talk show and the equal second most listened to Breakfast show in the local market.

Gary Adshead posted a 9.8 share in Mornings (up 1.8), Afternoons with Julie-anne Sprague increased by 1.2 points to a 6.6 share, and Perth Live with Oliver Peterson secured 7.7 – up 1.5 on last survey. 

There was also growth across the board in commercial streaming, with the station posting a 11% share (up 0.3). Breakfast recorded a stunning 23.1% share (up 7.2) – continuing their reign as the No.1 streamed Breakfast show in Perth – and Mornings recorded a 13.2% share of streaming (up 3.1).

NOVA Entertainment has announced the appointment of Josh Halling to the role of Group Commercial Director, responsible for the direct and independent agency channels.

Teddy Swims Live in Nova’s Red Room

NOVA Entertainment has announced chart topping, platinum artist Teddy Swims as the next artist to perform live in Nova’s Red Room. The intimate show will take place at Northcote Theatre in Melbourne on Sunday July 14.

The one-off live set will be the third Nova’s Red Room event in Melbourne for the year, with the American singer-songwriter set to capture the hearts of an intimate crowd of just 500 invitees with an exclusive acoustic set list, before heading to Margaret Court Arena for his sold out ‘I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy Tour’.

Addressing the announcement and the upcoming performance, Teddy Swims said “I’m so excited to return to Australia in July! We are preparing something really special for this intimate show in Melbourne! Can’t wait to see you, I love you!”

Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillps, co-hosts of the Nova 100 breakfast show Jase & Lauren will host the exclusive event alongside newsreader and cohost Clint Stanaway.

Michael Marcagi Live in Nova’s Red Room

NOVA Entertainment has today announced folk-rock singer-songwriter Michael Marcagi as the next artist to perform live in Nova’s Red Room. The highly anticipated performance will be held at Lulie Tavern in Melbourne on Tuesday, July 16.

The exclusive set will be Marcagi’s debut on the Nova’s Red Room stage and the fourth Nova’s Red Room event in Melbourne for the year. 200 lucky fans will be treated to the money-can’t-buy private show where the American artist is set to perform his well-known hits ‘The Other Side’ and ‘Scared to Start’.

ABC winners at 2024 SA Media Awards

ABC journalists reporting on South Australia’s First Nations Voice to Parliament, the mental health crisis and sporting burnout were among the winners at the 2024 MEAA SA Media Awards.

Angelique Donnellan won Best Television/Video Feature for her 7.30 report, ‘Call for Help’, which documented the story of a young man killed by police during a mental health crisis. The judges praised her sensitive handling of a difficult topic: “The reporter’s ability to establish a deep and trusting connection with her subject was evident. This was an incredibly powerful, incisive and – above all – important piece of journalism.”

Angus Randall won the Best Radio/Audio News Reporting Award for “National eyes on SA as it passes Voice legislation”, described as “a sensitive and careful examination of the prospect of legislation for the people it would affect most.”

In the Visual Storytelling category, Che Chorley won for his “masterful images [that] brought his subjects to life and conveyed a strong sense of place in two stories about outback South Australia. This is a feature photographer at the top of his game.”

Nicholas Maher’s ‘explainers’ on international crises in countries such as Myanmar and Sudan took home the prize for Multimedia News or Feature. “In a world of growing complexity and shortening attention spans, Nicholas Maher’s ability to explain difficult issues in engaging, bitesize chunks on multiple platforms makes him a deserved winner in this category.”

Awarded Best Rural/Regional Journalist, Sophie Landau’s collection of reports ‘Connection, care, compassion’ were praised as original and well-researched demonstrations of the importance of building strong connections within the community. “Her report about Theo Nickolas Papageorgiou and the impact of his suicide on family, the local region and state mental health laws is particularly notable.”

Cale Matthews’ ‘Sports Burnout’ for BTN, which presented “a sympathetic but informed view of how high-performing young people strive to find a balance between protecting their mental health, while still pursuing excellence”, won Best Sports Report.

The ABC also fielded many finalists whose agenda-setting stories continue to lead to change and make an impact.

ABC and Nine partner for Paris Olympics radio coverage

Nine has today confirmed a sub-licensing agreement that will allow the ABC Local Radio network to broadcast the 2024 Paris Olympic Games to listeners on 891 ABC Adelaide105.7 ABC Darwin, 936 ABC Hobart, 666 ABC Canberra and DAB+ channels in those markets, as well as local ABC radio stations across regional, rural and remote Australia.

As Australia’s Home of the Olympics and Paralympics, Nine will deliver unparalleled coverage of the 2024 Summer Games across its television, audio, and publishing platforms, including exclusive commentary and coverage of every moment of action on its talk radio stations and streaming platforms: Sydney’s 2GB, Melbourne’s 3AW, Brisbane’s 4BC and Perth’s 6PR.

The deal between Nine and the ABC will extend the radio coverage (AM/FM and DAB+) of the Olympic Games to ensure every Australian can access live broadcasts of our most loved athletes competing on the world stage, and help unite the country around these spectacular sporting moments.

Under the deal, the ABC Local Radio network will bring its listeners the excitement from the Olympic Games using its own expert commentary.

Coverage will include every Australian gold medal chance, Opening, Closing and Victory Ceremonies; highlights programs, updates of key events, and general replay coverage; and comprehensive coverage during regularly scheduled news programming. In addition, Nine will provide ABC Local Radio with access to its exclusive live, on the ground television and radio commentary and interviews, as well as those of the IOC.

All broadcast coverage by the ABC will acknowledge Nine as the Home of the Olympics during licensed broadcasts, as well as in any promotional material.

Executive Head of LiSTNR Podcasts Grant Tothill has announced the appointment of Clair Weaver to the newly created role of Head of Factual for LiSTNR.

Weaver brings a wealth of experience in investigative journalism, editorial policy, and news producing. Her impressive career includes working with 60 Minutes as a Producer, 9News Sydney as an Investigations Editor, The Australian Women’s Weekly as a Senior Journalist, and, as a Reporter for the Sunday Telegraph and London’s Evening Standard.

NAIDOC Week celebrations are held every year each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This year the week falls between 7 and 14 July, and the CBAA wants to acknowledge the its theme and fill you in on what we’re doing to mark the week.

This year’s theme, Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud reflects the power of media of all kinds, including community media, to preserve and promote language and culture.

51 First Nations organisations provide 158 community broadcasting services covering our capital cities to our most remote regional areas.

These services connect community to language, culture, community voices and music. Australians from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background are 37% more likely than the general population to listen to community radio.

The AMRAP Radio Show has been a fixture on the Community Radio Network for several years, bringing a roundup of the latest in Australian music to community radio audiences.

We’re excited to announce that the AMRAP Radio Show is becoming The Local Source, better capturing the show’s goal of amplifying local music so that broadcasters and listeners alike know what they’re hearing.

The first episode of The Local Source airs on Wednesday, 10 July on the Community Radio Network. To mark NAIDOC Week it will feature Muruwari musician Dobby selecting some of his favourite First Nations artists from amrap.org.au as well as discussing his new album, WARRANGU; River Story.
