{"id":2191,"date":"2026-01-18T15:29:33","date_gmt":"2026-01-18T04:29:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/?p=2191"},"modified":"2026-01-18T15:29:33","modified_gmt":"2026-01-18T04:29:33","slug":"abc-tv-and-radio-in-bendigo-region-expected-back-late-next-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/01\/18\/abc-tv-and-radio-in-bendigo-region-expected-back-late-next-week\/","title":{"rendered":"ABC TV and Radio in Bendigo region expected back late next week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Communities in the fire-affected Bendigo region can expect ABC TV and radio services to be gradually restored from the end of next week, following an assessment of damage at the Mount Alexander transmission site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with transmission provider BAI, the site has now been assessed for equipment damage as conditions eased and access to the site became possible in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both radio and television services are expected to be back on air by late next week, however services may be at a reduced quality for several more weeks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur teams, along with BAI and industry partners, have been working around the clock to restore services as quickly and safely as possible,\u201d said Damian Cronan, ABC Chief Digital and Information Officer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cServices will return initially at reduced power, which means some members of the community may experience reduced coverage and poorer signal quality until further restoration work is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe ask viewers and listeners to bear with us as we progressively rebuild to full transmission capacity over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMost viewers will need to rescan their TVs to receive ABC services again, but no antenna work is required. We\u2019ll continue to provide updates as restoration progresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThanks again for your patience as we bring ABC back to full strength.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Television restoration update<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following assessment of the Mount Alexander site, BAI advises it can restore enough of the damaged equipment to return television transmission by late next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>What audiences can expect:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Most households who lost TV services will have them restored once transmissions resume.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Initial picture quality may not be as strong as usual while reduced-power equipment is in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>There may be pockets of reduced or no reception, including parts of the Echuca and Daylesford regions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quality and coverage are expected to improve in the weeks following restoration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BAI advises full restoration will take several more weeks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage maps are below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Important viewer advice:<\/strong><br>Some viewers may need to re-scan their televisions to restore channels once services return. An antenna technician will not be required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live-production.wcms.abc-cdn.net.au\/dc639923cabc4fd7f50dac00fc820d17?impolicy=wcms_crop_resize&amp;cropH=576&amp;cropW=1024&amp;xPos=0&amp;yPos=0&amp;width=862&amp;height=484\" alt=\"Pic main 2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Radio restoration update<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BAI is hopeful that all four ABC radio services (ABC Bendigo, triple j, ABC NEWS, ABC Classic) will begin to be restored from late next week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What audiences can expect:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Radio services will return initially with a much smaller footprint than usual due to reduced power.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Coverage is expected to improve progressively over the coming weeks as further repairs and equipment restoration are completed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ABC Local Radio Central Victoria\u00a0is currently on air on 91.1 FM.
