{"id":1235,"date":"2025-03-28T00:30:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-28T00:30:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.radioindustrynews.com.au\/?p=1235"},"modified":"2025-03-28T00:30:10","modified_gmt":"2025-03-28T00:30:10","slug":"kyle-jackie-o-show-breaches-decency-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/03\/28\/kyle-jackie-o-show-breaches-decency-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"Kyle &#038; Jackie O Show breaches decency standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has found comments made during broadcasts of the <em>Kyle &amp; Jackie O Show<\/em> breached decency rules under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/acma.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-sihdkll-tlhiuitutd-t\/\">Commercial Radio Code of Practice<\/a> (the Code).<\/p>\n<p>Following a listener complaint relating to a 7 June 2024 broadcast of the program, the ACMA opened investigations into\u00a0Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation Pty Ltd (KIIS 1065) and Double T Radio Pty Ltd (KIIS 1011), the licensees that air the program in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/acma.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-sihdkll-tlhiuitutd-i\/\">investigations<\/a> found that the two segments referred to in the complaint included explicit sexual content and content that included sustained and vulgar graphic sexualised descriptions.<\/p>\n<p>ACMA Chair Nerida O\u2019Loughlin said the segments would be considered offensive to any reasonable person listening to the broadcast and were not in line with broader community standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis content went beyond the bounds of decency expected by the community and was done so deliberately and provocatively,\u201d Ms O\u2019Loughlin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven having two program censors employed by the broadcaster in place following previous ACMA enforcement action, this has not stopped occurrences of unsuitable content going to air,\u201d Ms O\u2019Loughlin said.<\/p>\n<p>Double T Radio has also been found to have breached the Code for not responding to a listener complaint within 30 days of receipt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cComplaints are an essential part of Australia\u2019s co-regulatory broadcasting system as they provide a reliable avenue for the public to put their concerns directly to the broadcaster,\u201d Ms O\u2019Loughlin said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFailing to respond to complaints in the required timeframe undermines the effectiveness of the co-regulatory system.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On 7 February 2025 the ACMA opened two further <a href=\"https:\/\/acma.cmail19.com\/t\/d-l-sihdkll-tlhiuitutd-d\/\">investigations<\/a> into concerns around a range of content brought to the ACMA\u2019s attention\u00a0into the program\u2019s compliance with the\u00a0Code.
