{"id":1228,"date":"2025-03-27T10:23:15","date_gmt":"2025-03-27T10:23:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.radioindustrynews.com.au\/?p=1228"},"modified":"2025-03-27T10:23:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T10:23:15","slug":"community-media-journalists-bring-2025-federal-budget-to-community-radio-and-beyond","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/index.php\/2025\/03\/27\/community-media-journalists-bring-2025-federal-budget-to-community-radio-and-beyond\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Media Journalists Bring 2025 Federal Budget to Community Radio and Beyond"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"ContentUserControl\">\n<div class=\"blogs-block \">\n<div id=\"MainCopy_ctl04_UpdatePanel3\">\n<div class=\"row margin-top-large\">\n<div class=\"col-md-12\">\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" data-uw-rm-lang=\"false\">On Tuesday 25 March, a dedicated journalism team hit the halls of Parliament House to deliver timely, inclusive and relevant coverage of the 2025 Federal Budget to community radio listeners around the country.<\/p>\n<p>Representing community-focused newsrooms from across the sector, the team included:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Noah Secomb<\/strong>, Federal Politics Reporter, CBAA and National Radio News (NRN)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Emma Myers<\/strong>, Disability Rights Reporter, CBAA and Powerd Media<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Micah Kickett<\/strong>, First Nations Affairs Reporter, CBAA, NIRS and Koori Mail<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Sophia McCaughan<\/strong>, Narromine Star<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Dechlan Brennan<\/strong>, National Indigenous Times<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0<strong>Alexi Boyd<\/strong>, Host, Small Biz Matters<\/p>\n<p>For Noah, this year marked a return to the press gallery &#8211; and another milestone in delivering independent coverage to regional, remote and culturally diverse audiences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been another wild ride in Parliament House covering this year\u2019s federal Budget with folks from across the country,\u201d Noah said. \u201cWe\u2019ve managed to cover disability, First Nations affairs and regional funding more comprehensively than ever before. It\u2019s been a bit hectic running around grabbing interviews and frantically reading some of the driest content in Australia, but being busy is when this job is at its best, and we\u2019re able to do some of our best work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Micah Kickett, covering the Budget for the first time, shared his pride in ensuring Indigenous perspectives were represented:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s definitely an experience that I will remember, and being on the ground to be able cover it in real time and be the voice for Indigenous mob is an experience that is humbling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emma Myers, who focused on disability and access issues, reflected on the intensity and impact of the experience:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a very surreal experience.
