{"id":273,"date":"2024-07-03T06:14:50","date_gmt":"2024-07-03T06:14:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.radioindustrynews.com.au\/?p=273"},"modified":"2024-07-03T06:14:50","modified_gmt":"2024-07-03T06:14:50","slug":"lisa-millar-to-farewell-abc-news-breakfast-in-august","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/index.php\/2024\/07\/03\/lisa-millar-to-farewell-abc-news-breakfast-in-august\/","title":{"rendered":"Lisa Millar to farewell ABC News Breakfast in August"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After five years on the couch Lisa Millar this morning broke the news that she will leave\u00a0<em>ABC News Breakfast<\/em>\u00a0to focus full-time on her other exciting projects across the ABC.<\/p>\n<p>The accomplished journalist and presenter departs as\u00a0<em>News Breakfast<\/em>\u00a0co-host on 23 August but will remain a regular presence on the ABC, continuing on from her success as narrator of hit series\u00a0<em>Muster Dogs<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 recently nominated for a Logie, guest presenter of\u00a0<em>Back Roads<\/em>\u00a0and co-host of popular podcast series\u00a0<em>The Newsreader<\/em>. \u00a0Millar will also present\u00a0<em>Muster Dogs: Where are they now? \u00a0<\/em>later this year.<\/p>\n<p>Millar first presented\u00a0<em>News Breakfast<\/em>\u00a0in 2018 before joining fellow host Michael Rowland on the couch permanently the following year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat a blast the past five years has been, whether it was interviewing prime ministers and global thought leaders or getting karaoke encouragement from my childhood idol Gladys Knight,\u2019\u2019 Millar said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 35 years of journalism I\u2019ve never done anything so exciting, unpredictable, and fun. It\u2019s only worked because of the awesome team in front of the cameras and behind the scenes who kept me laughing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMost importantly, I want to thank our viewers who brought me into their homes and lives every morning. I\u2019ve loved sharing breakfast with you all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited to hit the road and discover more of the incredible stories that make up the remarkable tapestry of our culture. There are so many adventures ahead, whether it be with\u00a0<em>Back Roads, Muster Dogs<\/em>, or new projects we\u2019re cooking up. What a privilege it is to be a part of that future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Millar joined the ABC in 1993 and went on to establish herself as one of the finest journalists in the country.<\/p>\n<p>She is one of the ABC\u2019s longest-serving foreign correspondents, serving as Bureau Chief in both the US and Europe during periods of extraordinary global turmoil. She has covered stories including US presidential elections, the Boston bombing, the Sandy Hook school shooting, Hurricane Sandy, the terrorist attacks in Paris, as well as royal weddings and Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<p>Director, ABC News Justin Stevens said:\u00a0\u201cLisa Millar is a superb journalist and broadcaster who personifies\u00a0the very best values and attributes of ABC journalists.\u00a0 We value her immensely.\u00a0While we\u2019re sad to lose her from News, I\u2019m excited to see her take up this opportunity and continue to go from\u00a0strength to strength at the ABC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s done a fantastic job presenting News Breakfast over the past five years \u2013 one of the toughest jobs in Australian TV. The relentless hours never impeded her incredible warmth and energy, or her passion for delivering the best program for the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ABC Chief Content Officer Chris Oliver-Taylor said: \u201cLisa is an ABC legend. She has done just about everything there is to do in news journalism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m delighted to welcome her into the Content team full-time to continue her work on the hugely popular Muster Dogs and Back Roads as well as developing more shows over coming years.
