{"id":2704,"date":"2026-07-09T11:57:04","date_gmt":"2026-07-09T01:57:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/?p=2704"},"modified":"2026-07-09T11:57:04","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T01:57:04","slug":"francis-leach-to-take-on-overnights","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/index.php\/2026\/07\/09\/francis-leach-to-take-on-overnights\/","title":{"rendered":"Francis Leach to take on Overnights"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"258\" height=\"151\" src=\"https:\/\/radioindustrynews.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/francis.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2705\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Renowned broadcaster Francis Leach has been introduced to audiences in the early hours of today as the new presenter of ABC Overnights, replacing Trevor Chappell who will retire from the program at the end of the month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A familiar voice for ABC audiences, Francis started his broadcast career on air at triple j before dedicating decades to sports journalism and has worked for&nbsp;<em>Grandstand<\/em>&nbsp;and on ABC TV\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Offsiders<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He has spent nearly a decade in public policy and federal government roles but says he is returning to his one true love \u2013 radio. \u201cI have had a lifelong love affair with radio and it&#8217;s wonderful to be given the opportunity to return to the microphone.\u201d Francis said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe ABC Overnights audience is as passionate about radio as I am. It&#8217;s a community of great people from all walks of life and experiences, and I feel very privileged&nbsp;to be joining them each morning. Trevor has left an incredible legacy, and it&#8217;s my job to continue it in a manner that gives the audience the listening&nbsp;experience and connection with one another that he made his trademark.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ABC Head of Capital City Network Anthony Frangi said:&nbsp;\u201cFrancis is a natural broadcaster with a deep love of radio and a natural ability to connect with audiences,\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOvernights is a very special program, built on companionship forged in the quietest hours.
